RX:
My Station consists of an Icom IC R75 receiver, fitted with a 500Hz CW filter, the receiver and Spectrum Lab software combination is calibrated using a home built DDS as an adjustable signal source. The frequency of which is calibrated against a HP5316B Counter clocked by a GPS disciplined 10.00MHz Oscillator. The counter has a worst case effective accuracy of 1 part in 1E-08 + 1 count, which is 1 part 100MHz using this combination.
When I first setup my Grabber I used the receiver of my Icom IC756 pro3 Transceiver, which was really a waste of resources so I purchased the IC R75 to take over the role as Grabber receiver. I have not regretted doing that as the ICR75 behaves very much like the 756pro3 receiver did.
Software:
Spectrum Lab software gives total flexibility when used as a spectrum display.
The time on the Grabber (from my Computer) is locked to the UTC second by a home brew “Ultimate Clock” which is a GPS and Arduino board with a 2 line readout of time and date, and the GPS generated 1PPS signal fed to the computer Clock via Meinberg NTP Time Server software.
ANT:
My antenna is a λ/2 copper wire dipole strung up between 2 trees in my driveway. The driveway has a bend in it, and is an avenue of trees around 15 metres tall. The dipole is strung up along the drive between the trees, from the corner of the driveway. It is 8 metres above ground at the western end and 4 metres high at the eastern end, best radiation is I guess approximately north/south. I have a low power Guanella type current Balun (1:1) at the feed point and this is fed by exactly 1 electrical wavelength of RG58AU coaxial cable. The feeder therefore repeats the antenna impedance at the receiver end. The whole antenna system was tuned up using an MFJ269B Antenna analyser for best return loss at 10.140MHz.
... in seveda primerna lokacija:
Part of my success must be put down to my location which is 18km out of town in a remote country area, which is quite low noise and free of nearby TV sets, and other noise makers.
I am looking at running the Grabber in a remote location if I can source a cheap way of getting it onto the internet as it is now. I am looking at my Gliding Club airstrip (I fly Gliders), which is 25km from my QTH to set it up initially. However getting onto the internet there involves a Cell phone 3G connection, which is very expensive here...
Peter je obiskal tudi te kraje:
Incidentally I have been to Slovenia, my wife and I spent a few days in Koper on the Adriatic Coast with friends (from Krakow in Poland). We went down to Rijeka in Croatia and went flying at an ex military airstrip at a place called Podhum just outside Rijeka. We were on our way to the UK via Sicily, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia, Germany, and the Netherlands. Part of a 3 month motoring trip through Europe, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
