Announcement and Invitation: EUCW Straight Key Day (SKD) – this coming Saturday

The midsummer solstice is coming very soon, and for a ham that means only one thing: the EUCW Straight Key Day! The SKD is not a contest in the conventional sense – QSO points are not collected, but rather for each QSO you give a grade to the other op on his/her CW skills using a straight key. The purpose is to give hams an opportunity to show off their skills with a straight key and to hear some of the most beautiful, personalized CW you’ll ever run across.

Date: June 20, 2009 (always on the Saturday falling on the Swedish Midsummer Day or between the dates June 20 and 26).

Time: 0800 – 2200 UTC

Frequencies:
3540 – 3580, 7020 – 7040, 10105 – 10125, 14050 – 14070

Mode: CW using a straight key only

Scoring: The minimum number of QSOs for scoring is 5 contacts. For each QSO, you grade your fellow op’s “fist” in the range 0 (unreadable) to 5 (perfect). The SKD Straight Key Award certificate is awarded to all participants whose average score is at least 3.5.
